An antique French sterling silver 3 piece service set comprising of an asparagus server, fish serving knife and fork. The serving pieces are all crafted entirely of.

All feature thick blades/tines, not flimsy or thin silver. Each piece is of quality construction, sturdy, with a good weight in hand. Even the blade on the asparagus server is crafted and hallmarked for. 950 sterling silver, beautifully decorated with exquisite pierce-work. Rarely is the blade silver.

Asparagus servers typically have a steel blade, so it is a real treat to find one with a fully hallmarked sterling blade. The handles feature rococo shells, monogrammed with interlaced initials MD in fanciful script.

The blades are finely engraved with neoclassical motifs, such as flowers, sprigs of laurel, scrolling foliate and rocailles. Fully hallmarked on the servers and handles with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of 950/1000 of 95% pure silver and a higher finesse than. Also bearing marks for notable silversmith CHARLES-FRANCOIS LANGUEDOCQ, active from 1845 to 1854. Overall the set in very good condition, with little signs of use.
