PUIFORCAT Antique French Sterling Silver Dinner Forks Set Armorial Coat of Arms
An exceptional antique French sterling silver set of 12 dinner forks by Puiforcat. Richly decorated in Louis XVI styling. The pattern on this set is a version of the prestigious Louveciennes pattern by Odiot.
Featuring elegant fluting and strapping, with acanthus accents and shell motifs. The back of the service ends with berries and leaves. Engraved with a coat of arms identified as that of the Fould family.
The Fould family were successful bankers and politicians. Below is the family motto'Aide toi, Dieu t'aidera', a French proverb exclaimed by Joan of Arc during her incarceration in Rouen, which means: Help yourself, and God will help you.
The set is marked with the French Minerva 1st standard hallmark indicating. 950/1000 silver 95% pure silver and higher than.
Bearing maker's marks of renowned Parisian silversmith Emile PUIFORCAT, active since 1857. In good antique condition with general wear. Total silver weight is 1157.2 grams.The box is not original to this set, but houses it well. Box measures 10 1/4" x 9 1/8".
