Elegant antique French Napoleon III era sterling silver & solid mother of pearl 4pc hors d'oeuvre or condiment serving utensil set! All four have gorgeous shimmering pearl handles with floral garland patterned Empire or Louis XVI styled sterling silver caps & collars or ferules, beautiful pierced or reticulated bowls & engraved decoration and all in fabulous shape! I've always loved the mother of pearl handled French silver pieces, ranging from serving utensils to those lovely old table knives and so had no willpower when it came to these.

It's the heavy and somewhat cold feel in the hand perhaps, or maybe the way they shimmer in different light... I'm sure you understand. The handle caps & collars are all in solid silver, could be. 950 sterling but there are no hallmarks which was common in the smaller portions.

If you look closely at the knife's blade, the shape of the Minerva hallmark is slightly rounded meaning it's in. 800 or 80% pure silver.

All of the others bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they're in. 950 silver 95% pure and higher than the. 925 standard for "sterling" silver.

The silversmith marks are for Edouard Ernie, Paris circa 1882. A beautiful set, perfect for entertaining and easily incorporated into your existing fine sterling silver service! Very good to excellent condition. No chips, cracks or damage to the pearl handles and no damage that I can see to any of the silver.
